WET PLATES
During the development of JordanRiver Michaels self portrait series Enchiridion Michaels began to wonder what a self portrait is, and what it has to have to be considered a self portrait. He came to the conclusion that a self portrait is anything that represents ones self and it doesn't have to be a physical representation their face. What allows us as humans to be created, to live, to love and to reproduce? Michaels focused on the physical make up of our bodies and created this collection. Working with 18 inch by 18 in glass wet plates, Michaels took to his own body specimens and photographed them in his studio over box lights. Working with, Urine, Blood and Semen all produced from his own body, both the resin cubes and the photographs were created.
